Jewel Carpets first came  into existence in the age of Mughals Emperors. These carpets were used to hang behind the thrones of  the emperors as a royal gesture to welcome the king of kingdom . Precious stones, gems, halfgems,golden and silver thread, silk, polished copper wire & silver polished copper wire were used to adhere on these embroidered carpets in the past .

Jewel Embroidery Carpets were also known by Zardozi  Embroidery. It is a type of royal embroidery art. Zardozi Embroidery work involves making elaborate designs ,using golden and silver threads ,gems , precious stones, .

One of the most famous master of Zardozi was Sheikh Shamsuddin from Agra . Embroidered piece by Sheikh Shamsuddin are the heaviest artful embroidery in the world .
